Hanson School Food Bank Appeal
Bradford North Food Banks put out their harvest appeal at the start of September and on the 5th September Hanson staff were asked to donate non perishable items of food / toiletries etc through out the month.
Families can fall into crisis for many many reasons, job loss, bereavement, fleeing domestic violence, refugee and asylum seekers, to name but a few.
There has been a huge increase in families using food banks, and since Bradford North Food bank opened in 2005 over 4,200 emergency 3 day food parcels have been issued locally which have fed nearly 10,000 people in crisis, however donations have not been sufficient lately to supply foodbanks to continue supporting the most vulnerable families.
Harvest is a key time to put out an appeal and receive donations. Every 0.5kg of food donated equates to 1 meal, so the more that is donated the more meals can be provided, a large percentage of those fed are children, hungry children do not learn, so it is crucial stocks are maintained.
Hanson staff rose to the challenge and have been incredible in contributing a large amount of food to the table. Also a very generous cash donation was made which will be used to purchase items there is a shortage of.
Amount of donated food is yet to be weighed. The total amount of meals provided will be issued when we have it.
