Performing Arts Overview

The Performing Arts is an exciting and dynamic faculty that provides students with a stimulating learning environment that engages and encourages an inclusive culture.  



Performing Arts is a faculty consisting of 7 staff delivering across the full age range 11-19.

  • Music teachers – Mr S Speight, Mrs E Church & Mr B Mungovin 
  • Performing Arts technician – Mr J Lawson



We are able to utilise the full benefits of a multi million pound building that we first occupied in 2014. There are 2 specialist drama studios to showcase exam work, extra curricular work and to celebrate the achievements of all students. We also have 3 specialist media suites with the latest software to design and model multimedia creativity. There are also 4 music practice rooms with a variety of different instruments to encourage independent learning and musical progression.     



All students are taught Drama, Media and Music in mixed ability sets across the key stages. At GCSE the students are entered for the following qualifications: 


  • Drama – OCR 
  • Media Studies – WJEC 
  • Music – EDUQAS 


At A’ Level students are entered for the following qualifications: 


  • Media Studies – WJEC 
  • Music – EDUQAS 


Students are encouraged to use the studios and suites before and after school, as well as break and lunch times, in order to accelerate their progress. Teachers are always available to guide and lead students to success. Extra revision sessions take place on a regular basis to continue this acceleration.  



The Performing Arts Faculty has established links with our main partner primary schools through the provision of activities for students and the opportunity for shared performance. The faculty have excellent links with Higher Education establishments in the area, encouraging a good proportion of students to opt for Performing Arts and related subjects at post 16. Performing Arts regularly showcase performances to our feeder schools inviting them to attend interactive workshops and performances that encourage transition.
